30 mph Wind + 30 mile ride = Sucko!!

Yuck…  I know… I know…  That which doesn’t kill us…  Whatever.

Today was a long ride.  To some, it would barely be a warm up.  But for me, it was the longest ride I’ve taken on a road bike since college.  Which was… umm… a LONG time ago.  Most of the people I rode with ride over 100 miles a week.  For them, this was a short training ride.

I had no illusions of keeping up with them for more than 10 miles so I started making my route plan in my mind to look for a bail out point at around 10-12 miles.  I stuck with the pack for that far took off on my own.

Yup… Twenty miles of high winds and 50 degree temps with no pack to share it with.  Or is that… comiserate…

And I could swear that the wind switched so that it was in my face regardless of which direction I went.  There were a couple of times where I caught a big gust in the face and just… stopped.  Oh, I was still pedaling…  Just… not moving.  I’m sure I will get used to all this, and will gain strength through these rides.  But I still think I would rather run in a thunderstorm than ride in a heavy wind like today.  Just a personal preference.

Positives from this ride were that I survived it.  I guess going 30 miles was a positive.  I feel good now.  I learned how to make some on the fly adjustments to my bike.  It’s all good…
