On to sport #2

Somehow I managed to knock a minute and a half off of my 400 swim time.  I would like to think it is because I am getting stronger and my form is better… but I think I may have just miscounted laps last week.  That’s a pretty dramatic jump for such a short time.  Either way, it did “feel” better this morning.  A little more like I was gliding through the water rather than fighting against it.

It think I’m about to the point to where I can move on to the next sport, bicycling, and focus on it more for a while.  If I keep drilling the swim and extending my distances out, I may not be fast but I will at least get through it.  The bike is kind of an unknown right now though.  I just don’t know how well I will do.  Partially because of my equipment, but mostly because of my fitness on the bike.  When I rode a lot, it was mountain biking, which is great for balance and coordination, but is all about power.  Road biking is about efficiency and body position and technique.  In these areas… I need help.  I’m shaped like a basketball, have never thought about proper positioning on a bike (or had a fit kit done), and my “technique” is to stomp on the pedals until the hills go away.  This doesn’t translate to triathlon biking very well.  I’m hoping my coaches can work me through that.  Otherwise the bike may not be pretty.  Not that I expected anything less…
