After spending most of Tuesday morning getting poked and prodded in private places by strange men and women for the first time in 20 years, without even so much as a phone number or a smoke afterwards, the exam and ultrasound on my nether regions came up with a diagnosis of no “obvious” hernia. While this is good news… I guess… It still doesn’t answer the “What the hell is wrong with me?” question. The feeling has settled into something very much akin to stomach cramps very low in my abdomen, with occasional sharp pains and muscle weakness in my abs, groin and upper quads. The level of pain has gone from serious ache to nagging twinge. I am scheduled to see a sports medicine specialist the Monday after Thanksgiving, so until then… I wait.
As you can see from the top, I have decided to continue to run until it either hurts too much or a doctor tells me to stop. Maybe this is foolish… I guess I will see. In any case, I am not pushing too hard, I’m just running. I won’t be running any races until spring so I am just trying to maintain fitness until I am given a real course of action.
The run this morning felt OK. I had some mild discomfort but it was workable and I feel OK now. No better or worse than if I hadn’t run. After taking a week off it was good to be back out with the group again. Although, as usual, I started in a pack and finished alone. I will probably take tomorrow off and then run at least some of the group run on Saturday. It’s a 10 miler and the group usually runs between 8:30 and 9:00 pace. We’ll see how I feel.
